Troncoso Reading Prizes

Students!  Enter to win one of the Sergio Troncoso Reading Prizes!

Stop by the Sergio Troncoso Mini Library (temporarily located inside of the Pavo Real Recreation Center, classroom #3) to pick up your reading log.

Prizes will be given to the students who read the most books from November 15th to January 31st - minimum requirement is five books.  Each student must also pick a favorite book from the books read and write a short essay (100 words or more) on that book.

There are two categories of prizes:
First, Second, and Third Place for students in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade;
First, Second, and Third Place for students in 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade.

FIRST PLACE       $125 Barnes and Noble gift card
SECOND PLACE  $100 Barnes and Noble gift card
THIRD PLACE      $75 Barnes and Noble gift card

The Troncoso Reading Prizes will be awarded only to students within the geographical area covered by the Sergio Troncoso Library, including:

High Schools
Del Valle
Ysleta
Socorro
Faith Christian Academy
Plato Academy

Middle Schools
Camino Real
Ysleta
Salvador H. Sanchez
Valley View
Faith Christian Academy

Grade Schools
South Loop
Lancaster
Capistrano
LeBarron Park
Ysleta
Mission Valley
Alicia Chacon International School
Faith Christian Academy
Maran-Ata Christian Academy
Our Lady of the Valley
Presa
H.D. Hilley
Hueco

If a student attends a private or parochial school not listed above, then the student must provide proof that they reside within the eligible geographical area.

Prize applications will only be taken through January 31st - so don't delay, pick up your reading log today!

And the El Paso Public Library's Winterfest Reading Club registration closes next week on January 6th!  You can list the books you've read for the Winterfest Reading Club on your application for the Sergio Troncoso Reading Prizes.  You can find more information on the Winterfest Reading Club HERE.

Author visit - Sergio Troncoso!

Join us this  Tuesday ,  November 5th  at  5 pm , as we welcome author and educator Sergio Troncoso at the Sergio Troncoso Branch Library . In 2014, the El Paso City Council voted unanimously to rename the Ysleta Branch Public Library in honor of Sergio Troncoso.  Now you can visit with Mr. Troncoso as he reads from his latest book A Peculiar Kind of Immigrant's Son . CREEPY CRAWLY STORY TIME!

Do you like bugs?  Do you like stories?  Do you like bugs, and stories, and crafts?  If so, join us here at the Sergio Troncoso Public Library for a very special creepy-crawly story time presented by the El Paso Zoo ! Like all library story times, this event is free and open to the public!  On Wednesday, October 9 at 2 pm here at the Sergio Troncoso Public Library, there will be  BUGS! We'll read stories about bugs, make bug crafts, and visit with some real live insects!   See you this Wednesday!
